The Oaks Care Home in Newtown, Powys celebrated Valentine’s Day with a Ball for its residents.

Staff decorated the home with hearts, pink and red themed balloons and red roses and invited residents to dress up for a fun afternoon of dancing, singing and games. They were also wined and dined with the help of chef Simon who prepared a lovely three-course meal.

Afterwards, John Hughes ‘The Singing Farmer’ from Pentre Gaer in Powys arrived to perform for the residents in the home’s café bar lounge.

Daniel Hart, Registered Manager of the luxury, purpose-built care home which offers high quality residential and nursing care as well as dementia care, said: “I get excited to put on this event every year at The Oaks as this generation has had the toughest love with losing partners at war and old age.

“It is a special time for us to celebrate the love that has been, love for friends and family and for the ones that we have lost.

“As well as the Valentine’s Day Ball, we have been making personalised family and friends/loved ones cards that have been sent out in the post to them followed by some home-made decorative brooches that were worn for the ball.”

Resident Frances Rogers, 84, who moved into The Oaks with her husband, Brian, said: “My favourite part of the day was that I got to spend it with my lovely husband of 60 years.”

Merrill Simcox, 75, a former Laura Ashley employee, said: “It was such a lovely day. My best part of it was I that got to sing and dance with my favourite performer John ‘The Singing Farmer’ all afternoon and have a good time with all of my friends. It has really made my week.”

Iris Morgan, 88, a retired private secretary, said: “It was such a special day to celebrate, I enjoyed every minute of it.”
